Emma Eames
Complete Victor recordings (1905-11)
The American soprano Emma Eames (1865-1952) was a famed student (along with
Nellie Melba and Emma Calve) of the legendary Mathilde Marchesi. Eames was a
leading star of the Paris Opera, Covent Garden, and the Metropolitan Opera.
Her interpretations of Romeo and Juliette (Gounod) and Tosca (Puccini) were
praised by the composers themselves.
This 2CD set of Eames\' complete recordings for the Victor Talking Machine Company,
includes arias and duets (with Sembrich and De Gogorza) from Don Giovanni, Marriage
of Figaro, Romeo and Juliette, Faust, Trovatore, Cavalleria Rusticana, Tosca;
songs by Schubert, Massenet, Tosti; and American songs.
