Rudolf Mauersberger (1889-1971)

I. Dresdner Requiem

II. Trauermotette: "Wie liegt die Stadt so wüst"

M.-Ch. Winkler, Organ
Members of the Dresdner Philharmonie
Dresdner Kreuzchor
Matthias Jung

Rudolf Mauersberger was cantor of the Dresden Kreuz Choir for 41 years (1930-1971).
The composer tried to comprehend the bombing of Dresden on February 13 & 14, 1945.
Since being reopened on February 13, 1955 the "Dresdner Requiem" and the Trauermotette "Wie liegt die Stadt so wüst" have been frequently performed. Both works are symbolically connected to the large bell in the church tower. The barrenness of "Wie liegt dir Stadt so wüst" is compelling through its dynamics and the text from Jeremiah.
